Hammer connects customers with independent technicians and shops. Doing that needs personal information from all three, and verifying partners needs sensitive identity documents. This explains what we hold, why, and who can see it.
1. Who we are
Hammer is operated from Tamil Nadu, India. For anything in this policy, write to support@hammerapp.in.
2. What we collect from customers
- Your name, mobile number and email address.
- The service addresses you save, including their map location, which is used to find technicians near you and to work out a delivery charge for parts.
- What you booked, what you were quoted, what you paid, and any photos, video or voice notes you attach to describe a problem.
- Invoices and payment records, which we are required to keep.
We do not store your card number, UPI PIN or bank credentials. Payments are handled on the payment provider's own page; we receive only a confirmation and a reference.
3. What we collect from technicians, shops and delivery partners
Partners are verified before they can take work, which requires more: identity and address documents including Aadhaar and PAN, a photograph, bank account details for payment, a driving licence where relevant, qualifications, GST registration where applicable, and shop location. A delivery partner supplies the same identity documents plus a driving licence, the vehicle's registration book, and the pincodes they are willing to collect parcels from.
This is used to confirm a partner is who they say they are, to pay them, and to meet tax obligations. It is visible to Hammer staff who need it for verification, payment or support. It is never shown to customers.
4. What other people see
Keeping the three sides apart is deliberate, so it is worth stating plainly:
- A technician sees your name, contact number and the service address only once they are handling your job. Technicians who quoted but were not chosen do not.
- A shop supplying parts sees the technician's details and the delivery area — not your identity, and not what you paid for delivery.
- A technician's own crew member sees a job only when it has been handed to them.
- A delivery partner carrying parts to you sees what is in the parcel, the address it is going to, and the phone number of the technician or crew member waiting there — the minimum needed to deliver it. They are shown no prices at all: not what the parts cost, not what you paid for delivery, and not your total. The only figure in their app is what Hammer pays them for the journey.
5. Location
The apps ask for your device's precise location so an address can be pinned on a map: a customer setting a service address, a technician confirming where a job is, or a shop marking where it trades from. The map pin is what a delivery charge is calculated from, so an approximate position is not good enough.
A delivery partner's app opens the phone's own map application for directions. It does not draw a map of its own and does not report the rider's position back to us while they ride — the record of a delivery is the times it was collected and handed over, not a trail of coordinates.
Location is only ever read while you are using the app and have tapped something that needs it. No Hammer app collects your location in the background, and none of them tracks your movements. A single reading is taken at that moment and saved against the address you were setting.
You can refuse the permission. Everything else in the app still works; you will have to type the address instead of dropping a pin, and a delivery charge may then not be calculable.
6. Camera, photos and recordings
The apps ask for the camera, your photo library and the microphone so you can attach evidence to a job: KYC documents during verification, photographs of completed work, and voice notes describing a part that is hard to name. Each is only accessed at the moment you choose to attach something.
Nothing is captured in the background, and we do not read your photo library beyond the files you pick.
7. Messages we send
We send one-time codes and job updates by WhatsApp, and sometimes by email or app notification. Codes for signing in and for confirming a completed job are essential to using the service and cannot be switched off. Marketing messages can be, by replying to any of them or telling support.
8. Where it is kept, and for how long
Data is held on servers in India. We use third parties for payments, WhatsApp delivery and app notifications, and share with them only what each needs to do its job.
We keep records for as long as your account is open, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep invoices and payment records.
9. Deleting your account
You can close your account from your profile, or by asking support — including after you have uninstalled the app. Full instructions are here. When you do, we remove your personal details — name, contact details, addresses and documents — and permanently disable the login.
Invoices, payments and earnings records are not deleted. They are financial records belonging to a completed transaction, and we are required to keep them; they no longer identify you. An account with a job still in progress cannot be closed until that job is finished or cancelled, so that nobody is left waiting on a technician who has disappeared.
10. Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to support@hammerapp.in. We will respond within 30 days.
